Quick Update

Well Brayden was home from England & Wales for a couple weeks. Then he headed back to Montreal where he’s been since. He’s training with his coach there and riding most days. He says he’s feeling stronger and has high hopes for nationals this year. One weekend he had off he went to the Laurentians and got to go water skiing! He’s having a good time and it’s good for him to be so close to his coach.

The schedule for nationals is – Thursday – Time Trial, Saturday – Road Race, and then next Tuesday & Wednesday will be the track races. I will keep you posted on how he does!

Team Sprint

Today was the Team Sprint which went really well. The team of Me, Eric and Jean came in 4th and had the cool opportunity of racing for Bronze, I think it was a outside chance but still it was cool to do. I never thought I would do that so I am really happy. Now I know what racing two times feels like so I have to race to win now.

Tomorrow we are moving on to the new location and I think its about a three hour drive to a place called New Port for more track racing. I hear there are CP group races, I have to say I am a little scared about that as there may be lots of action and I don’t mean with the end result (like 1st, 2nd, 3rd). Maybe it would be a good idea to work up front or some thing just in case!

Latest Kilo Results and Excited for Upcoming Races

Today was my Kilo which was really really good. I took a tenth of a second off my time from Beijing. My final times was 1:22:00.

Tomorrow’s the team sprint. Jean, Eric and I have not decided who will go first, second, and third yet.

After that we are done here in Manchester. Our next stop will be in Wales for the what I believe will be the same races.

It would be nice to see what a final is like in one of the upcoming races. I would really enjoy coming home and being able to say “I was in a World Track Final.”

Race # 1

I had a great race today. In fact I was only 2 seconds off my Beijing time of 4:15. Today I did a 4:17 so I am really happy because people I raced against are getting slower with age and I plan and will be getting faster.

Tomorrow I have the Kilo. I’m not too sure what my best time is, but I would like to beat or better that one! I race at 5:30 here. Wish me luck!

Results from pursuit

I just went on the Paralympic World Cup site and found the results.

Here they are:

Darren Kenny GBR 3:44.416
Masashi Ishii JPN 3:45.200
Rik Waddon GBR 3:47.345
Jiri Bouska CZE 3:51.904
Simon Richardson GBR 3:54.207
Enda Smyth IRL 3:58.430
Paolo Vigano ITA 3:59.570
Fabrizio Macchi ITA 4:01.762
Tobias Graf GER 4:03.951
Jean Quevillon CAN 4:09.632
Michael Teuber GER 4:09.868
Tomas Kvasnicka CZE 4:11.185
Brayden McDougall CAN 4:17.063

Just in case you don’t know what the pursuit is, here’s the definition from the Manchester site: “Ridden over 3000 or 4000 metres. Riders usually compete in pairs, starting from opposite sides of the track. If in a final, one rider catches his or her opponent, the race is considered to be over. This event is considered to be more of a test of endurance.” – Brayden’s race was 3000 metres.

Tomorrow he does the Kilo – “Simply a time trial from a standing start over 1000 metres. This comprises four laps of a 250m track.” This is what he beat Jean in when they were in Granby. Hopefully he can do the same tomorrow!

Made it to Manchester

Sorry its hard to write because I’m not online every day. But ya – I made it here. My first race is later today – the 3k Pursuit Qualification. I have two races here and then two more in Wales. I will email tonight to say how the racing went – I feel good. I feel like I am getting stronger day by day, so we will see how things go.

The roads here are really small. And people make their own parking spaces where ever there is room. It is weird.

Anyway – here’s a link to the schedule and results and stuff: http://www.btparalympicworldcup.com/sports/trackcycling/index.php

Training in Montreal and then off to Manchester

It’s been a while since I’ve written on here. I took a couple months off after China and started training hard again in the new year. Jay, my coach moved to Manitoba, and I got a new coach, Eric. He is in Quebec. So that’s why I’m here training.

I’m staying at Seb’s house with his girlfriend and they live about 5 minutes from the track. Usually I get up at 8, have breakfast and go to the track by 10. We ride and I’m home at about 12 or 1. I hang out for the rest of the day and watch TV and stuff. I have to go to bed at 10 or 11 and do it all again the next day. I’m getting more comfortable on the track and the last few days have been good. I did a Time Trial in Granby and came 2nd. Jean came in 3rd so I beat him so I am really happy about that.

Yesterday I got new clothing to wear in Manchestor. Its really nice – red, white and black – I got a skin suit, 2 bibbed shorts, 2 jerseys, a vest and cycling socks. I leave for Manchestor on the 15th. I will send a schedule of when I race.

I’m back!

Thank you so much for sending me your notes while I was away. For me it was awesome to have the support from all the way back home. It was a long 5 weeks or however long I was gone for. Perth was cool but the best thing each day was to check emails and keeping up with everyone back home.

Breanne and Kevin did one heck of a great job.

Oh ya and Beijing was the best – a good way to start my exciting and fun travels.

The ‘rents go to China

I got word from my parents – they’ve made it to China (I leave today) and here’s what they have to say:

We made it! Our apartment is quite big but has no utensils. The Canadian check in people are great though and are looking after it for us. It’s very busy here – cars and people everywhere. The city seems ready for the Paralympics. It is really humid but I haven’t noticed any problems with the air. We heard from Brayden and he sounded really happy to know we are here. He said Athletes Village is incredible.

Can’t wait to see more! – Mom

Brayden says…

Well I got an update email from Brayden. Here it is!

how are things? sorry for the updates not coming my computer is not longer my computer.

so the last few days have been good working hard with the team we are mostly doing track but a little road to balance things out. I seem to be more comfortable behind the Motorcycle but for some reason I was not close enough to it. All of the team is bonding well. I am sure Me, Devon and Brian will continue to be confused at what the plan is for the days but I think that will get better or at least it should. I am doing my own Breakfast and lunch but sharing dinners with Brain. In China it will be different I think as far as eating goes (interesting foods!)

I am getting more and more excited as the days continue.

well that is all i know got to go.

Brayd
