Team Sprint

Today was the Team Sprint which went really well. The team of Me, Eric and Jean came in 4th and had the cool opportunity of racing for Bronze, I think it was a outside chance but still it was cool to do. I never thought I would do that so I am really happy. Now I know what racing two times feels like so I have to race to win now.

Tomorrow we are moving on to the new location and I think its about a three hour drive to a place called New Port for more track racing. I hear there are CP group races, I have to say I am a little scared about that as there may be lots of action and I don’t mean with the end result (like 1st, 2nd, 3rd). Maybe it would be a good idea to work up front or some thing just in case!

Latest Kilo Results and Excited for Upcoming Races

Today was my Kilo which was really really good. I took a tenth of a second off my time from Beijing. My final times was 1:22:00.

Tomorrow’s the team sprint. Jean, Eric and I have not decided who will go first, second, and third yet.

After that we are done here in Manchester. Our next stop will be in Wales for the what I believe will be the same races.

It would be nice to see what a final is like in one of the upcoming races. I would really enjoy coming home and being able to say “I was in a World Track Final.”

Race # 1

I had a great race today. In fact I was only 2 seconds off my Beijing time of 4:15. Today I did a 4:17 so I am really happy because people I raced against are getting slower with age and I plan and will be getting faster.

Tomorrow I have the Kilo. I’m not too sure what my best time is, but I would like to beat or better that one! I race at 5:30 here. Wish me luck!

Results from pursuit

I just went on the Paralympic World Cup site and found the results.

Here they are:

Rik Waddon GBR 3:47.345
Jiri Bouska CZE 3:51.904
Simon Richardson GBR 3:54.207
Enda Smyth IRL 3:58.430
Paolo Vigano ITA 3:59.570
Fabrizio Macchi ITA 4:01.762
Tobias Graf GER 4:03.951
Jean Quevillon CAN 4:09.632
Michael Teuber GER 4:09.868
Tomas Kvasnicka CZE 4:11.185
Brayden McDougall CAN 4:17.063

Just in case you don’t know what the pursuit is, here’s the definition from the Manchester site: “Ridden over 3000 or 4000 metres. Riders usually compete in pairs, starting from opposite sides of the track. If in a final, one rider catches his or her opponent, the race is considered to be over. This event is considered to be more of a test of endurance.” – Brayden’s race was 3000 metres.

Tomorrow he does the Kilo – “Simply a time trial from a standing start over 1000 metres. This comprises four laps of a 250m track.” This is what he beat Jean in when they were in Granby. Hopefully he can do the same tomorrow!

Final Race in Beijing

Well today was the road race, there were 28 riders, combined CP3, LC3 and LC4s, so the race was exciting. The crowd was packed and people were cheering like crazy. The CP4, LC1 and LC2s went before Brayden. So that was Eric and Marc, Eric is braydens roommate here. Marc didn’t start, we aren’t sure why and Eric was a DNF.

Brayden was behind by the first lap. He rode with Jean, an Argentinian and a Portuguese rider. He finished in the same lap as the leaders without quitting or being disqualified. We were very proud of him for keeping on going on his own. This year has been a big learning experience for Brayden and he’s definitely got some competition. He was the last guy to come into the stadium and was cheered on by thousands of people, he is pumped for next year.

Simultaneous Updates!

Update One

Well we left at 8 am and drove out to the ming tombs, that’s where the road races are (where the triathlon was for the Olympics). We got here before 9 but didn’t make it to the seating until 930. We had to take a bus from where the cab dropped us off up to the spectator stands. And they are packed. Like insane. We are in the last row and there are enthusiastic Chinese all around us. They must move sporting events here because everythings been packed! Now we are watching the hand cyclists and waiting for Brayden to ride – not until 1120. So we have a while. Today Brayden will do 24 km which is 2 laps. Tomorrows race is 5 laps which is 60 something.

Second Update

Not sure if you watched but Brayden was a DNF (did not finish). His bike was broken. Were not sure what the problem was but his wheel was moving side to side and he had to stop. He rode around at the end so they mustve fixed it. Hopefully he’ll be able to race tomorrow. The results for today were Ochoa in 1 followed by Kenny in 2 and the Korean in 3 it was close in times between Darren and javier. And then close between the Korean and the other Spanish guy that was 4th. Jean came 5th. That’s all for today. Everyone here is grumpy. :)

Racing Results From Sept 9

Today was another exciting day for us at the track. Brayden was racing in the kilo, his best track race that he got gold at nationals.

His mom and dad were very nervous. Probably more nervous than him!

Brayden raced his hardest and finished 7th. His time was 1.22, not his best time ever, but his coach was happy with this result being as this was his first time at this big of an event.

Brayden is a celebrity here. When he sits with us people come up constantly to get their pictures taken with him and his autograph! And in athletes village people are recognizing him from his commercial!
