Biography

  • Brayden has always wanted to ride a bike. He spent many years riding with training wheels and attempting to ride without, going through so many training wheels that his Dad made his own heavy duty ones in hopes of them lasting longer. His family had just started to look into getting Brayden a trike when suddenly he could ride! In 2002, Brayden was approached by Stephen Burke, National Cycling Centre Calgary Program Coordinator & Olympic Oval Development Program Coach, while shopping with his mom. Stephen asked if he had cerebral palsy and if he could ride a bike, and would he like to train with some other disabled riders … without thinking, Brayden answered Yes, and his adventure began.The bike has given him the ability to get around at the same pace (or faster!) as those around him, in a way it made him feel “normal”.
  • Brayden’s ‘heroes’ – Lance Armstrong – Brayden got the chance to meet Lance in 2007 when he attended a fundraiser dinner that Lance was hosting. He also idolizes Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh, as Brayden and his Dad have watched and played a lot of golf together. (best score of 95, from the mens tees on a championship course).
  • Brayden would like to represent Canada feels that he can become a World and Paralympic Champion. He is thrilled to have his first opportunity to compete at the Paralympic games in Beijing. Every year he has attained new personal bests – internationally, his best result was the Pursuit at the 2007 World Championships where he finished 6th.
  • Brayden would like to become a motivational speaker to share with people how being involved with sports has changed his life.
